About our OT Student Program

At Life Skills Hub, we are committed to supporting the development of occupational therapy students and providing accessible support to young people. Our OT Student Program supports children/young people to receive cost-effective and tailored OT supports that addresses their unique needs.

This program has been developed after identifying the need for cost-effective services for families who; may not have access to funds, may have inadequate funding or need additional supports alongside their current services. 

 

Benefits to the service​

• Families can access cost-effective services, with a low rate for sessions.

• Clients will receive a summary report at the end of the program with recommendations can be used as evidence for support for schools or other services. 

• OT student services can work alongside existing OT services. With the reduced cost, clients can access services more regularly during this period. For example, accessing weekly services instead of fortnightly.

• OT students can work towards different goals to your existing OT services. For Example, gross motor skills, fine motor skills or independent living skills.

All OT student services, including assessment and intervention planning, are overseen by a Senior Occupational Therapist at Life Skills Hub. All students are provided with regular supervision and detailed oversight of all activities.

 

How does the OT Student Program work?

Our OT Student Program is offered as a package which involves Assessment, Intervention Sessions and a Summary Report.

The Assessment Phase (2-3 sessions): OT students work collaboratively with an experienced OT to complete an assessment to determine strengths, areas of development and formulate goals for the intervention period. This may involve a combination of 1:1 sessions and caregiver-only sessions. 

 

The Intervention Phase (5-8 sessions): Once goals have been established collaboratively, our OT students will conduct intervention sessions working towards those goals. 

 

The Review Phase: At the end of the program, OT students will complete a summary report outlining assessment results, observations, progress and recommendations moving forward.

How much does the OT Student Program cost?

See below for an outline of costs for the OT Student Program.

 

Note: Assessment sessions can be claimable through Medicare with a valid GP referral. This would reduce the cost of the assessment sessions as outlined below. Clients using NDIS funding are unable to claim Medicare. ​

Assessment sessions: $110.00 per session ($49.65 gap with Medicare Rebate)

Intervention sessions (60 minutes): $50.00 per session

Summary report: $80.00

Who can refer into the program?
We recognise the differing need of individuals and current gaps in services across different contexts. We accept external referrals from the following:
 

• Other health professionals such as OT's, Speech Pathologists, Paediatricians etc..

• School representatives

• Self-referrals from caregivers and families.

Please note: All referrals will be triaged by our Senior Clinical Team to determine suitability for the OT Student Program. In some instances, our clinical team may determine that a more experienced clinician. In these cases, our team will be in contact with you.
