Hi, I'm Tohid!
Provisional Psychologist
& Curious Crow
Studying psychology has been a personal journey for me. I was thirsty to know more about my own mind and the world around me. Over the years and through my life experiences, I’ve come to acknowledge that there’s an invisible thread between us humans (even though I’m a crow deep inside ;>), no matter the distance in time or space. And when we genuinely meet with each other, that’s a magical moment. I learnt from artists, scientists, philosophers, and all the living beings I’ve encountered that any small word or act of kindness towards yourself or others has a ripple effect. Meaning, it literally makes waves of kindness in the world! So, that’s made me adventurous and courageous in being one swimming drop in this ocean.

In working with clients, I try to be authentic and empathetic, and to show them they’re worthy just as they are, without any other conditions. I see them as the experts on their lives, capable of realising their potentials and thriving at times of hardship. I’m there to assist them, by giving them time and space to express themselves without filter (in whatever way and pace they want to) and to explore their inner self as well as the world around them.

What made you want to become a psychologist?
Well, I was in high school, and I don’t know from where, but I found a book of Sigmund Freud’s lectures. I got excited reading it as I thought, ‘woo human mind seems such an extraordinary thing!’ and I stubbornly decided to follow that path! Today, I don’t like Freud’s ideas much (one because it’s misogynistic) but still think he did spark a great deal of ideas in psychology and mental health.

What are some of your favourite activities to do in your free time?
I love playing ping pong (socially!), watching movies (favourite directors: Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick & Abbas Kiarostami), listening to music (favourite band: Pink Floyd), and reading books (favourite author: Fyodor Dostoevsky). I also cherish having quality time with people, especially my loved ones.

What is your favourite quote?
‘However I feel, I will be’ - it’s a quote from a kid (with the pseudonym Dibs) attending play therapy sessions, narrated in the book ‘Dibs in Search of Self’ by Virginia Axline.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
Crow! I don’t know why exactly, but I feel some sort of connection with them (and with birds in general)!
